Young and feeling like getting involved in the wider Trade Union movement?

Dear Colleague,
November is Young Workers Month, where we ask unions and young trade unionists to take some action to showcase the work of trade unions campaigning on issues that are important to young workers.
The Young Workers Conference this year has prioritised campaigning on high quality apprenticeships and also the pay of young workers. Our research as part of our ‘Reaching Out to Young Workers’ programme has also highlighted a number of key concerns young workers have, including family friendly working for young parents, getting on and progressing at work and a lack of advice and career and skills guidance.
The TUC published a new report at its Congress last month, ‘Getting by and getting on’ where you can find more information about young workers and key workplace issues and our earlier research listening to young workers, which you can find here https://www.tuc.org.uk/ research-analysis/equality/ young-workers
We are hoping that you and your union can join in Young Workers Month by taking some action to support these campaign issues, whether it’s a workplace stunt, making a film, bringing young workers together to share their experiences or telling us the story of what your union has done to help overcome some of the challenges young workers face – or you could tell us more about the organising work your union is doing to bring young workers into trade unions.
If you or your union is taking some action, please complete this short form or let Jessie Jacobs at the TUC know what is happening, at jjacobs@tuc.org.uk.
If you are using social media to highlight your action, please use #YWM17 #youngworkers so we can all see what’s happening.
Best wishes

We all know the importance of bringing new activists through and some of us are even still 'officially' young, despite my bad hip. If you fancy this take this email back to your branch or association and discuss it with your colleagues.
In the meantime, anyone with any ideas for something to do for Young Workers Month, stick the ideas in the comments box and on the facebook page.
